Unpredictable Weather in Alaska Did You Know?
Lightning is responsible for about 97% of the area lost to wildfires in Alaska. Sensors across the interior have located an average of 26,000 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes per year. Most strikes occur in June and July and the most active area is the White Mountains, located north of Fairbanks.
