Things To Do at the Fairbanks Alaska Center

  • The Fairbanks Alaska Public Lands Information Center offers scheduled films, special events, and family programs offered throughout the year.
  • A variety of educational programs are offered year round on-site and off-site for community schools and youth groups.
  • A lecture series entitled "Explore Alaska" is offered from autumn through spring with programs on a variety of topics such as adventuring in Alaska, public lands recreation opportunities and other Alaskan themes of special interest. 
  • Native and local artist demonstrations are offered once a month as part of the community's First Friday events.
  • Come on in and enjoy films about the gold rush, dog mushing, “Leave No Trace”, or a variety of other topics!
  • Call to be added to our quarterly newsletter mailing list.

Monday–Thursday: Celebrating Athabascan People    
Gwich'in Dancers will perform while a narrator shares about community potlatches with pictures & video elements. Enjoy a mock potlatch on stage, and learn about the cultural significance.

Friday: Evolution of Dog-Mushing
Upper Tanana Athabascan sprint-dog musher Jennifer Probert shares racing stories and demonstrates advanced new techniques with her lead dog, Diamond.  

Cultural Tours: Mon-Fri, Through August 28 1 &3 p.m. $5 per person
View the Center's exhibits as your Athabascan guide shares traditions and values. Learn about the display's cultural significance.

Native Artists Demonstration the Workshop: 1 – 5 pm, M – F
Come meet Native artists from our region and buy exclusive work directly from them while learning more about their history and expertise.    

Book Signing and Lecture Saturday July 24th 3:30 p.m.
Jack deYonge will join us to talk about his new book, "Boomtown Boy: Coming of Age on Alaska's Lost Frontier"  

Exhibit Tours
June and July Weds, Thurs, Sat, Sun 12 noon
Join a National Park Service Ranger for an interpretive tour through our newly opened exhibits. FREE!  

For Kids

Family Story Time: Alaskan-themed books for children ages 5 and up and their parents, sponsored by the Literacy Council of Alaska and Alaska Geographic  

Join First Friday
First  Friday of every  Month 5-8 p.m.
August 6: One Tree Project- The art teachers of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District demonstrate the utility of a birch tree                       through art.
