The Alaska Site Explorer is a 42-inch interactive flatscreen map that is housed in our Anchorage Center. This map is not just any map. The Alaska Site Explorer lets you:
-Find a campground that suites your needs!
-Figure out distances between different locations, as the crow flies, by road, or any other way imaginable!
-View weather forecasts from around the state for various time periods.
-View a weather radar.
-Look at nautical, street, topographic, National Geographic and satellite maps.
-Learn about the aurora forecast for the next few days.
-See photos of various areas of Alaska.
-Take specialized virtual tours of public lands.
-Click on our volcano layer to view Alaska's active volcanoes and check their statuses.

GIS Day is a global event for users of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to educate children and adults about how geography makes a difference in our lives and to demonstrate GIS technology. GIS Day events take place at schools and organizations in more than 80 countries around the world.

 The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.

The National Park Service manages over 390 units of the National Park System including national parks, historic sites, monuments and recreation areas. One may find Alaska park information on the national web site by state, name, location, activity, or topic.

Park-specific web sites include natural and cultural history information; many park sites include trip planning information, schedules of activities available to the public, or rules and regulations governing park use. Downloadable photos are often available and useful for student reports and other purposes.
