The Friday Night Insight programs are presented by a variety of speakers and begin at 7:00 p.m., and the
Saturday Matinee Movies begin at 3:00 p.m.
Friday, December 2nd A Journey of Passion through Art
Carmel Anderson will present the reasons and methods of her artistic expression through water-media
painting. Pushing the boundaries of traditional watercolor technique she utilizes various mediums to
play with color, texture, and transparency. While at times she works in a style that is open to surprise
and intuitively embraces the spontaneity of the paint, at other times, areas of her paintings are tighter
and of a more controlled style. Carmel is excited to share the great joy that painting brings.
Saturday, December 3rd Over Alaska
Take off on a breathtaking journey in Over Alaska as you soar above the vast landscapes of the 49th
state. Explore Denali, dog-sledding along the Iditarod trail and kayaking amongst ice-laden waters.
Watching this film will give you an insider’s look at Alaska’s natural and cultural heritage.
Friday, December 9th Woodworking & Sound Making, the Luthier’s Consideration
Luis Fernandez de Cordoba is a classically trained guitar maker who has worked in Panama, Spain, and
California and recently set up shop in Ketchikan. Luis will discuss why certain woods are used to make
instruments, including the structural and musical considerations. Learn the tools, implements, and
finishes used in a luthier’s workshop.
Saturday, December 10th The Silver Horde
This movie features a washed-up Alaskan gold miner with little hope for the future until he meets
someone with enough worldly knowledge and business sense to help him succeed in the fishing
industry. The Silver Horde was first released in 1930 and stars Jean Arthur, Raymond Hatton, and Joel
McCrea.
Saturday, December 17th Spawn of the North
Henry Fonda, John Barrymore, George Raft, and Dorothy Lamour lead an all-star cast in the sprawling
epic, Spawn of the North. This “Western of the North” is the story of one man’s transformation from
fisherman to vigilante in 1900’s Alaska as he is forced to stand alone against Russian pirates. He soon
learns that any unknown frontier is neither easily forged nor soon forgotten.
