Canoe the Swan Lake & Swanson River Canoe Route
Within Kenai National Wildlife Refuge lie over 100 miles of wetlands that all ages and abilities can canoe! In the ice-free months of mid-May to mid-October, visitors can canoe and portage around miles of canoe trails, camping and hiking between paddling forays. The Swanson River links over 40 lakes with the 46 miles of the river. The entire 80 mile route can be traveled in less than one week. However, you will have to arrange your own return shuttle from the take out. The Swan Lake Route connects 30 lakes with forks of the Moose River. Alternate routes provide trips from two to four days in length. Learn more on the USFWS Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Activities website.
